Hello Vista community! Just joined the other day.

On to my question: I switched from XP to Vista (first 32 bit, then 64
bit). I have a lot of jpg photos that I transferred when I upgraded
(clean install of Vista). Upon transferring them, some of my photos
looked distorted and had lines in them. I have uploaded a few examples
of what I am talking about. I am not sure why this happened. It shows in
the thumbnail, image preview, and in Google Picasa2. When the thumbnails
are loading, they look fine and then they all start to distort right in
front of my eyes. What can be causing this and is there a way to fix it
so all my photos are not distorted? The pictures are below. Thanks to
anyone who may be able to shed some light on this!

The files must have gotten corrupted in the transfer (assuming of course
you've confirmed that the originals
are good)

If you transferred the files on a cd or DVD, reburn it

Hello amd64x2, and welcome to the vista forums arty

I have seen variations on this problem following transfer from xp t
vista, normally it manifests itself as an error in displayin
thumbnails, rather than the actual images. you say that it displays O
in picasa2, what you may want to try is save from picassa and see if th
file is corrected. I have used Irfanview to solve this problem in th
past by adjusting the horizontal and vertical DPI on images so that the
match not sure what causes the problem but I would suggest that you tr
opening and saving on a few copys see if that corrects the problem

'IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewer
worldwide' (http://www.irfanview.com/

'GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program' (http://www.gimp.org/

Could it be a compatibility issue between Vista and your video card?

Thanks for the suggestions guys! barman58, I tried infranview to n
avail. It displays them distorted as well. Picasa2 shows the images a
distorted just like the thumbnails. I will try transferring them to m
Ubuntu laptop machine and see if they are still distorted there

Looks like it could be an actual corruption, rather than a the reading
problem, all I can suggest is to see if you can re-transfer in small
batches see if that cures things.

please post back to keep us informed and possibly help others

By the way. the latest Picassa 3 beta works well on Vista, Nice new
features

The one time I saw that in person, a new video driver solved it.
I have seen a new machine with a widescreen LCD, and the wrong resolution
set, make everything look distorted.

Barman, I agree that it could be a corruption. I was just sorting
through my pictures in Picasa2 and there was one folder that was fine...
no corruption. UNTIL I moused over the picture and it started to turn
colors and become distorted. This makes me think now that it is a
reading problem. Some are totally covered in a transparent solid color
like red or green as well.

I will keep you informed!

Hi. AMD64x2

I'm sure you've already tried but you could have a look at the graphic
drivers, go to the the manufacturers site, (not MS, Windows update tend
to lag behind), download and install the drivers. I only suggest this a
the x64 driver situation is very fluid at the moment, and there may b
new drivers available,
You could also try a system file check in case it's a windows glitch

'System Files - SFC Command - Vista Forums
(http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66...%20Maintenance

Another thing to try is to check different image formats does it happe
with .BMP or .TIF etc
