JSP = Java Server pages, a server-side processing technology. It
allows web page creators to do server-side processing, like ASP or
PHP. After the server-side processing, what gets sent to your computer
is simply HTML, which your browser should know how to display. If
you're getting errors on a JSP page, the problem is very likely at the
server.

Can you tell us what site you're having trouble with?

Tim;
Thanks for the prompt reply!

Yes, I completed an HP on-line class and received an e-mail survey from
them asking for my opinion re: the course sessions. In return, they
offered a reprint of the course contents which could be downloaded in
PDF format.
When downloaded, I was unable to open the file due to it's .jsp format.

You seem to be talking about two different things, JSP and PDF. You
can download and save a PDF file, then open it with Acrobat (or
several other things) whenever you want to. JSP files, as I said, are
executed on the server, resulting in HTML sent to your browser. Don't
try to right-click-and-save a JSP page, let it display in your
browser.

Tim;
Thanks again for your help with this!

I understand your explanation re: PDF/server>HTML but I may be missing
your point.

HP's offer is to download a printable copy in PDF format. But when I
click the download link, here's what I get back......

"File Download:
Name: PDFView.jsp
Type: Unknown File Type, 298 KB
From: h30240.www3.hp.com"

At this point, it can be either saved or opened. In either case it
remains in .jsp format and unable to be opened by anything I have.
(Java, Word, etc.)

I think you need to complain to HP. They shouldn't be sending a JSP
page as a download.

No, nothing on your machine will open a JSP.

One more thought...since you've already got the JSP on your hard
drive, try opening it with a text editor. You'll see Java code and/or
JSP tags that you won't understand (probably), but look for URLs. You
just might find a pointer to your PDF document.

Hi Tim;
For the record.......
I managed to open the .jsp file using Notepad but,as you mentioned, it
was a huge coded file. Tried to find some semblance of a URL but gave
up (after seeing spinning stars in front of my eyes.) Simply not worth
the effort. BUT!

I learned something new, and for this I thank you.

Regards
Vince
