Jumping screens occasioned by Vista upgrades?

The screen display on my sister-in-law's Vista machine jumps and
splits. If she reboots then this behaviour usually disappears for a
few days. She suspects that it started to appear after she permitted a
Vista upgrade. The machine has been into a local computer shop to be
examined but they were able to find nothing wrong with the hardware.

Has anyone reported anything like this following an upgrade? Or is
there some other software problem known to cause a malfunction like
this?

Maybe your monitor. The shop if I am mistaken did not use your monitor but theirs and hence the reason they did not find anything wrong.
Try another monitor and see if this issue duplicates itself on that one
