You're not alone ... I can not get either the Word nor Excel Viewer
updates to install either.
The only anomaly in the Hotfixlog, located in
Documents and Settings\<userName>\Local Settings\Temp\OHotfix
appears to be this :
UpgradeMsi=1
MsiUpgradeURL="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=20610"
Going to :
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=20610
reveals -
> Windows Installer 2.0 is required for this update
Not good, since Windows Installer 3.1 is installed on my system.
The only other error in the log is -
> Applying patches to product {90850409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9} Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003...
> Applying patch D:\DOCUME~1\MOWGRE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\WORD VIEW.msp...
> Command line: PATCH="D:\DOCUME~1\MOWGRE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.T MP\WORDVIEW.msp" REBOOT=ReallySuppress

And, so it goes ... I don't have the time nor patience to troubleshoot
the failed updates. Best advice I can give is to ensure that Excel and
Word docs come from trustworthy sources and are scanned with antivirus
software prior to opening them.
