First, the good news: SP1 didn't kill my Vista installation and all
peripherals that I use still work. That includes some unusual USB
devices such as Medtronic insulin pump which transfers data to a PC
via a BD Logic meter thru a USB cable, and also a LifeScan OneTouch
meter. Itunes works and so does sychronizing an ipod (I only tried my
Shuffle for now) and even updated the Shuffle software with no problem.
All apps that I have tried so far work--Firefox 2.0, Portable Firefox
Beta 3, build 4, IE7, Word & Excel 2003, Picasa, Thunderbird, Sunbird
and a few others.

Now for the bad news--total time including researching issues pertaining
to SP1 prior to installation, updating drivers, downloading SP1,
installing it, rebooting, and verifying the state of the PC, consumed at
least 11 hours, not counting the time that SP1 took to install (just
over an hour).

Start times still suck --after many reboots, it now takes 1:40.
Previous time to load - 1:25

Shut down varies from it wont shut down, to same as pre SP1--25
seconds. One time it managed to shut down in 16 seconds, with SP1.

Sleep and hibernation STILL confuse things--SP1, like pre-SP1 doesn't
want to shut down if that session included sleep OR hibernation, most of
the time. Time to go into and out of each mode still the same.

I have not found ANYTHING about SP1 that is even an iota faster, with
the POSSIBLE (need more time to evaluate) exception of how quickly the
wireless connectivity to the internet is acquired after a boot up.
Subjectively, it seems a bit faster, but I didnt time it like the other
items I mentioned above.

Oh, and for the person who had issues with the fingerprint reader after
SP1, I have had none (i updated the UPEK driver just prior to
downloading SP1.

All in all, THIS SERVICE PACK IS ESSENTIAL WORTHLESS for my installation
of Vista. I''m not in the least bit surprised, either--I expected it to
be much ado about nothing. Very underwhelming.

Good luck to the rest of you with your upgrades!!
