OK - I'm very confused and frustrated with the new (V5) windows update site.
Seems each client site that we try to update workstations from has different
problems but the bottom line is we can't update them.

Searching this (and others) newsgroups we find others with similar problems
but no definitive solution.

SP2 - Wow - talk about problems!! Was this released too early?

Why not restore V4 windows update until the kinks are worked out of V5 ???

Microsoft - Please help your resellers!!

Gerry

John,

That is one of the errors on one clients workstation and I have tried
everything mentioned in this group.

What really bothers me about this is V5 should be an improvement and it
appears to have taken a HUGE step backwards. Specifically - We've NEVER had
a problem on any workstation using V4. So far, every workstation we've
tried had problems. When it first came online, we tried using it (no
choice) at one clients office and it seemed to work from the standpoint that
one patch showed up as required (BITS). But it would always fail on the
download. To get beyond that we manually downloaded / installed the patch.
Then when we tried to update... oh you get the point... more problems.
Nothing but problems.

I for one never give up on things... but I don't have the time to address
this problem on 100+ workstations at various clients.

Thanks for the words of encouragement!!

Gerry

pconejo2410,

I'm sure you've noticed, but that link while it say's V4... it's not the
same old V4 we're all used to. I've tried this at one clients and had
problems also. It's updated (in my mind) also!

Thanks anywho!

Great links. But going through the ISA2k server as proxy does not work with
the new v5 windows update.
The link http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp

works though.

Thanks. Still searching.

It could be, but I can get v4 to work when v5 won't.

I think it is sneaky of ms to make you have autoupdate service on for v5 to
work. I guess it is one way to get around EC not letting them have it on by
default!
