Just restored my system and WU finds no necessary upgrades

Hello,

I just restored my system after a failed hard drive mirroring
operation. The XP home version I'm running is Compaq standard software, and
it can't possibly have Service Pack 2 on it. However, when I go to the
Windows Update center, it gives me nothing at all. No critical or
non-critical updates. It just sits there with a white screen. This can't be
right - it is not searching my system properly, but it is generating no
errors. Any ideas would be most welcome, and feel free to email me at

Canadian Paul,

Did you get a prompt to install the ActiveX controls for WU and what did
you do when prompted ? If you clicked No, then that may be what's
causing the issue. If you did click No then revisit WU to have it installed.

According to this KB article, which is for NT 4.0
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=193701

" Blank Page When You Try to Access Windows Update

- The Visual Basic Scripting Support (VBScript) component did not
install correctly on Internet Explorer 4.0 or became corrupted after the
installation. "

Try installing the latest Windows Script Host for XP :
Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Save it to disk, close IE, then install it.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, download and install the latest MSXML
package:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Save it to disk, close IE, then install it.
