about jvm

i have microsoft windows xp professional installed in my pc . i have
installed a brittanica encyclopediea and when i try to open the encyclopediea
this message comes up
unable to open the application a newer java virtual machine must be installed

i dont know what to do
i dont have access to a newer java virtual machine and i dont know why to
down load from.
so please help me
