K873333 Causing error message + disabling sound

I've downloaded the fix for the K873333 update, but my PC still comes up with
the SVC host error. Under admin tools, I've found this error message:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event Category: (100)
Event ID: 1000
Date: 29/08/2006
Time: 09:41:03
User: N/A
Computer: HP310
Description:
Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module
advpack.dll, version 6.0.2900.2180, fault address 0x00005650.

To add to this, once the error has come up, the sound card 'disappears' from
my control panel. The mixer controls are disabled and none of the media
players can play sounds. I can get round this by opening Media Player before
the error message comes up, but is annoying if I forget!

I'd appreciate any help or info!

Apologies - I think I got the wrong details. I have installed the fix to a
failed update - the fix was KB894391, but it has not fixed the problem.

Thanks for the info.

Sadly, there seems to be a problem with the update facility too. Automatic
updates are on and have downloaded some updates. Once it starts to install
them, the little yellow shield informs me the installation is stuck at 0%!

I have also tried downloading the updates manually, but the MS update site
keeps displaying the message 'Checking your computer for available updates'.

I've scanned for viruses and all my security is up to date.
