Can someone please point me to a fix? I called Kaplan and they gave me a
dead link to a supposed Microsoft fix for this error. I'm running Vista
64-bit Ultimate but can't access a Kaplan study program on a CD because of
this MCI error. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
Please try the usual fix:
Please right-click on the file and select Run as Administrator.

Hi,

What was the link? What was it supposed to fix? Did you tell them that the
link was dead?

Basically, it's their software so they are going to have to find a way to
patch it.

Unfortunately, neither of the previous two solutions worked. Running as
administrator, or even trying to run in compatibility mode both return the
error. I called Kaplan and they said the driver was a Microsoft
responsibility. The link they gave me was:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...0175119-9a5b-4

It seems to enable or fix some extensions in Media Player, that the Kaplan
program requires.

Without knowing what it was supposed to fix, it's literally impossible to
tell you where that fix may be now. Contact Kaplan and let them know the
link they provided is a dead end.

Regardless of what they state, an error with their software is their
responsibility to fix.

In searching the web, it seems that Kaplan is trying to palm this off on
MSFT and it's not an unknown problem. You guys need to lean hard on Kaplan
because it is not MSFT's problem to fix--it's Kaplan's and from what I hear,
Kaplan gets a considerable amount of bucks for their courses like the MCAT
ones. I don't know about their software costs. This problem from MikeNavy
has bounced around on the web since May.

If I had purchased software from Kaplan and it was not working with an
error, I'd be going to Kaplan for the solution. Sonmeone developed their
software they paid to do it. It did not conceive immaculately, and if I had
your solution I would have given it to you. I don't see anything coming up
in reference to Kaplan software MCI driver not loading on a MSFT site.

Good luck,

CH

I think Kaplan just needs to learn a hard lesson. I'm not sure why thi
is not common knowledge yet. I guess it is not since I just bought th
GRE program last night and am still trying to find a way to fix th
problem. I'm not gonna stress over the fix since I have xp on m
desktop. I'm just gonna go out of my way to inform everyone I know at m
University about the terrible customer service Kaplan seems to think i
acceptable and that they should not waste there time and money on
company that is so idiotic as to not make their software compatible wit
the common OS. And I'll be sure to make a special note of the fact the
try to pawn it off as if it were Microsoft's fault. Hopefully som
Kaplan flunky or maybe even exec reads this and does something about it
More likely though, they'll remain steadfast in their hubris and I alon
with all the educated consumers out there will never buy another one o
their products ever again
