KAV Proactive Defense frustrates uninstalling programs

I just finished uninstalling an old version of Acronis True Image,
which uninstall had been frustrated by Kaspersky AVP 7 Proactive
Defense Application Monitoring.

When I first tried to uninstall Acronis, it failed because the
relevant registry key was protected. I was able to take ownership and
assign myself full control using Regedit and that allowed me to
uninstall the program.

However, during the reboot to complete the uninstall, the computer
went into repeated rebooting, using Normal or Safe modes. I booted
from OS DVD and ran Startup Repair, but it failed and said it was
unable to repair this computer, with signatures mentioning corrupted
registry and rollback registry, among other things. I rebooted and
chose "Last known good configuration" and it rebooted OK, with a
Kaspersky AVP 7 window open showing the Proactive Defense window, with
Application Monitoring checked, which is what I had selected. The
desktop shortcut for Acronis was now a Windows default icon for a
broken link. When I unchecked Application Monitoring in KAV, the
default icon for Acronis disappeared! I was then able to install
Acronis TI 10 successfully and reboot without problem, which I had
been unable to do previously because it couldn't supersede the
installed version of Acronis.

I'm using Vista Home Basic. I hope this is helpful to others.

Cheers,
Larry
