I have the update KB 905474 installed in my computer, it is shown in
Add/remove Programs, is shown too in my update history like installed , I
have done Validation with success - Microsoft says that I have a genuine
copy of windows, everything it was fine until today when i went to Windows
Update it says High priority update. Anyway i tried to install but without
success.( it says -update was unable to be install successfully ). Any
suggestion please, because it seems to be strange.

I have a similar question. Like Tuci, today I received KB 905474, which
is a "Windows Genuine Advantage Notification".

When I go to IE Windows Update ---> custom, it say I need Windows
"Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)". In windows update
history, I got that a month or two ago (it has a check mark in a big
green circle). What's going on? I have a legit copy of XP. Can I pay
an extra fee to have them leave me alone?

Hi tuci and Jim Madsen:

Another odd thing about these Windows XP Updates is that there is NO
cross referencing between KB 905474 (Rev 3, April 28, 2006) and KB
892130 (Rev 3, March 1, 2006).

Their URLs are:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=905474

and

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=892130

I didn't have any problems downloading and installing either one of
them on my Win XP Home SP2 driven Compaq R4000 laptop.

Does Microsoft keep providing these repetitive upgrades so that they
can "continually" look into our machines to see what's there?

I look forward to reading other comments on this matter.

There has been a new version of the WGA Tool released back last week.
That's all.

OK -- I ran WU and it first (re)installed KB 892130 and then installed
KB 905474. (And that's a high priority update?)

No. By intended design, they cannot be deleted or disabled.

No, it's just a revised version. For instance, maybe with fewer bugs, or
improved features.

Or it's the first salvo of the Microsoft montly lease. They've already
announced 'metered' PCs . One small step for bean counters - one giant step
for Gates' fortune

I have a similar problem, WU tries to install genuine advantage but the
install screen just keeps going and going. I finally have to close it out.
The end result being that I cannot use windows update. WU says the install
is dowloaded, just will not install.
My comment to Microsoft.....If you want to be 'Big Brother' at least do
it freakin right!
