It's been safe since it was released and installed on 15 different
systems running XP Pro SP2, XP HE SP2, Windows 2000 SP4, Windows98, and
Windows ME. I'll see if it's OK on Win 2003 and give you a report.

Of course, none of those systems had malware nor were there any hacks of
the registry, no P2P software installed, no downloaded, "exotic"
screensavers, icons, or themes installed, no bogus security programs, no
registry fixers or cleaners installed. And, no dancing pigs nor monkeys
were clicked. YMMV.

Read the KB Article and decide for yourself.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms05-054.mspx

I installed it on 16 December and have had no problems that I can see.

It has always been safe.

What made you think it was not safe?

and neither does my system, as I run 5 spyware, one firewall and one virus
protection and yes I tried turning it all off to get updates, to no avail.
Only a whole week of vacation wasted.

only hundreds of systems no lonegr functioning, that's all.

On some machines, it makes it look like things work, but no updates or
installations really happen anymore.

Safer than trying to keep your system clean by relying on Spybot v1.3 and
WinXP SP1.

This KB905915 IS NOT SAFE!!!! If it was safe there wouldn't be the list of
caveats referred to in an earlier post on the Microsoft Support page.
Besides disabling Active X controls and and access to the update page itself
( and other issues) this update wiped out my Digital Registered Music Files
(DRM) and cost me hours of laborious troubleshooting....... until
WALMART...........that's right......WALMART tech support figured out how to
restore access to my licenses, ie., my property. What a pain the
..........!!!! Of course, these problems probably affect only a 'minority' of
Windows customers. How many thousands that minority is, has not yet been
determined.
