I just downloaded and installed the update for .NET 2.0 (KB 928365), and
appear to have had a successful install, but the update shield keeps
re-appearing and Windows keeps wanting to install it.

I've tried to uninstall through Add/Remove programs, and then re-install,
but that doesn't solve the problem.

Thank You for any help!

that happens to me too.... actually I'm trying to re-install the thing for
about 5 times before I checked here. currently I'm trying to "fix" it by
following some stuff I found in MSKB "how to uninstall the Framework v.2".
I've deleted a couple of files and a few folders as instructed, and now in
progress on downloading the Framework v.2. hopefully when it is installed,
the annoying shield won't pop up again. I'll report later. wish me luck ^_^

My problem apparently is the same. After each try, I get the message: One of
the updates failed to instdall.

To install this security update, you must have Microsoft Windows Installer
3.1 installed on the computer. To obtain the latest version of Windows
Installer for the computer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

NB: Windows Update/Automatic Updates started offering 927891 on 22 May-07.
If "Update for [Windows XP] (KB927891)" is listed in Add/Remove Programs
(make sure Show Updates box is checked), it's already installed. cf.

hi there, as I promised, I'll report back. it looks like I'm able to "fix"
whatever's going on. there is no more update shield near the clock.. yaaayyy

here's what I did.
- remove the microsoft .net framework 2.0 (and the update) from the
Add/Remove Program in Control Panel.
- go to MSKB (Microsoft Knowledge Base) and type "remove .net 2.0" in the
search box. I pick this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908077/ as my
guide
- READ carefully. I didn't do every single step the article suggested, but I
did the manual removal of URTTEMP folder, Mscoree.dll file in
Windows\system32 folder, and V2.0.50727 folder Windows\Microsoft.net folder.
- I removed those stuff in safe mode (restart your comp and press F8 before
the windows logo comes up)
- restart the computer and let it return in normal mode (the one we're on now)
- download the .net Framework 2.0 from MS website, the file name is
dotnetfx.exe and here's the link
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...D-AAB15C5E04F5
- TURN OFF whatever security program you have (anti virus, anti spyware,
firewall, etc).
- proceed with reinstallation of .net framework 2.0 then double click the
annoying update shield that will tell you that you don't need to download
anything to install the KB928365
- let it work and restart the computer as instructed
- yaaaayyyyy..... no more annoying yellow update shield in the right hand
corner of the computer

hope this helps.

I had this problem too. My memory has been jarred from reading this
thread--I remember the same hassle happened with a previous .NET update.
The workaround was to uninstall .NET, then reinstall it, and then
reinstall all available updates. Fun! =`(

Hi Gysca,

Can you help me?

Look, I have Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 already updated.
We had problems with our hard disk/drive(?) in December and we had to
reinstall everything (from SP1 to SP2). Later on I saw there was a Security
Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 3 and I installed it.

For what I am reading today, that was only for Vista... so I don't know if I
have to uninstall that first, then uninstall the updates that appeared today
which are failing to install.

Thanks in advance for your kind help.
Rismi :-)

I thought I had found the solution, but no... :-(

I gave up and I said: "Well, I will just restart the PC manually". When I
went to do so, I saw there was a special message on the "Turn Off" beside the
"Restart". It said that one had to "Turn Off" the computer for the updates
to take place. So I did so and the PC kept on saying that it was not
necessary to manually shut down the PC because it would do so automatically
after it had updated. It was 'nice' to see when it was saying "Updating 1 of
2 updates" and then "Updating 2 of 2 updates". Then it shut down perfectly.
I turned on the PC with the expectation that the yellow Windows Update icon
would not appear again. That was the case... at the beginning... Once I got
online... it appeared.

Now what do I do?

Rismi :-(

There is only one sure way to fix this. Uninstall .Net 2.0 via
Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. Download and install .Net
2.0. The next time you click on the Shield to Install the
update, it should install.
