One or both of these updates lock up explorer browsing and Microsoft office
applications when saving a file.

I remove these updates - everything is fine. Then, they get reinstalled on
the next startup.

If you're running XP, you need to change your Automatic Update settings.

Click the start menu...
Click on Control Panel...
Click on Security Center...
Under "Manage Security Setting For", click on Automatic Updates...

I personally changed mine from Automatic to Download updates for me, but let
me choose when to install them.

My opinion, until they come out with a fix to this, I don't want to download
anything. My suggestion is to keep checking with this group until a
permanent solution is found.

I downloaded KB 908531 on two seperate computers. Both running XP, one with
Office 2000, one with Office 2003.

The computer hung when I was in word or excel when tryiong to open a file.

I removed KB 908531 and all was well.

MS NEEDS TO FIX THIS. We lost many hours trying to fix this problem because
we downloaded a group of updates at once!

The registry changes mentioned in there are done by the REG file
included in the KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip file, which I offer for
those unfamiliar with humbling through the registry, which is the
heart and brain of Windows.

http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads...are-To-Web.zip
Extract the ZIP file and afterwards double click the contained REG
file. Let it import into the registry.

FWIW,
Freudi
