KB110806 Net Framework 2 service pack 1 keeps repeating update

According to my MS Update history, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack
1 (KB110806) has been installed successfully 4 times now. Yet today, it is
asking me to download and install it again.

Have I done something wrong, or is this a problem? I suppose I could add it
to my ignore list, but I am worried that it has not really installed and
could be missing out on its protection.

Please advise.

TIA
Martin

PS: I have WinXP Home SP2 with full updates - apart from maybe this one!

See Resolution: Method 1 (preferable) or Method 2 in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 (ignore the title).

If no joy, see this related post by my colleague MowGreen:

How to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and
whether service packs have been applied

Martin,

SP1 for .NET Framework 2 includes ' Problem ' fixes. I don't see any
Security issues listed, so the system is not missing any 'protection' :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945757

However, the Microsoft Update Catalog shows this:
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/...b-6a3919dfac35

> this release provides security improvements, and prerequisite feature support for .NET Framework
> 3.0 Service Pack 1, and .NET Framework 3.5

Suggest you download the .NET Framework setup verification tool -
http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools...upverifier.zip

Extract [unzip] it's contents to the Desktop.
Open the netfx_setupverifier folder and then read the
' setupverifier_readme.txt '
Now run the ' SetupVerifier_NetfxAll.exe '
Click Yes in the 'Setup Verifier' pop window
Click Yes again
Set the 'Product to verify ' drop down window to .NET Framework v2.0 (x86)
Then click the Verify Now button.
After the Verifier runs, click the 'View Log File' button.
Scroll all the way to the bottom of the log and post back with the
*last* entry, ' Verification thread is returning ___ '

Mow,

After running your instructions, the log file gave the following last line
"04/05/08 09:23:39 Verification thread is returning 0"
According to the readme file, this implies that verification was successful.

I don't know if this has any impact on the issue, but I think the reason I
have been getting .net updates is because I installed the MS Visual Studio
Express Editions. Not sure why that would have any impact, but thought I
should mention it.

Anyway - I followed the instructions on the MS link given by PA Bear and it
seems to have done the trick. I assume, therefore, that the installation of
..net was faulty somehow.

Thanks again.

Martin

Yes, the verification tool found that .NET runtime 2.0 was installed
correctly.
Yes, Visual Studio Express requires .NET Framework 2.0.

Not sure what was preventing the installation of SP1 for it.
Perhaps the antivirus and/or security software was the culprit.
Glad to hear that it did get installed.
Nice going, Martin. [ and PABear, too <w>]
