I need this update on my Windowsa XP Professional SP2 system but it does not
appear as available in the Windows Update place. Anyone know of a direct
location where I can obtain this update? Thanks.

Maybe I am just blind but I cannot tell which of the links in the article
you posted have the files:

25-Mar-2003 21:40 5.1.2600.1190 53,760 Cryptsvc.dll
25-Mar-2003 21:40 5.1.2600.1190 165,888 Cryptsvc.dll 64-bit
25-Mar-2003 18:54 5.1.2600.1190 53,760 Wcryptsvc.dll x86 for 64-bit
package

I am looking for. Which correspond to the article KB817287 I posted to
explain what it is I am looking for. Can you be more specific exactly which
of the six direct links in your post of article KB923100 has the above
files? Thanks.

Ehm, it's already included in Windows XP SP2, see the article:
| To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft
| Windows XP

What makes you think that you'ld still need that outdated update?

Bye,
Freudi

Ah OK. I see the Update Rollup 1 for Windows XP (KB826939) is for Windows
XP SP1. So I guess I should stay away from it since my XP is at SP2.
Looking at the link I posted originally a little closer I see that the issue
was addressed in SP2. Thanks for your help TaurArian.

Hi Ottmar. What made me think I needed that update is that I got a 0x643
error at Windows Update when I tried to install .NET Framework 2.0. And I
found a workaround for this which was:

del /q %windir%\system32\catroot2\ebd.log

but it didn't help. Anyway I got the download for .NET Framework 2.0 and
tried to install it. It tuned out from that I didn't have enough space on
the drive to install it although I had 350MB free. Go figure for a 24MB
installer. Anyway made some space and sucessfully installed it.

The 0x643 error in my case was "Not enough space to install..."

Peter did post http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 already ;-)

True but since I was looking for the files I asked for, Peter's post had
nothing to do with what I asked for regardless of whether what I wanted was
wrong or right. All his post did was show me the location of where .Net
Framework 2 could be found. I suppose when I ask for something it is always
best to provide what is asked for. Then the user can figure out if it is
truely what they need. That is what you and TaurArian did and I am thankful
for that.
