ADDENDUM TO INSTRUCTIONS BELOW
VERY IMPORTANT!:
When you go back to Windows Update and reinstall KB828026, install KB828026
ONLY! Do NOT install any other updates at the same time!
Two (2) Critical Updates are needed and they need to be installed in the
correct order; KB828026 and KB885492.
Installing WMP9 installs version 9.0.0.2980 of WMP.dll
Patch 828026 upgrades this to version 9.0.0.3075.
Patch 885492 upgrades this to version 9.0.0.3250.
Windows Update knows you need both patches but YOU need to prevent the
second patch from being installed first - doing this will cause the first
patch to fail - because WMP.dll would then be newer than the one it was
trying to deliver.
Many thanks to mTIE and his post of 3/25/2005 where he explains this very
logically - Trvlr747.
