I (foolishly) removed .NET Framework 2.0 beta to allow the release .NET
framework 2.0 to install.

It not only broke VS.NET 2005 and SQL Server beta versions,
it also broke the windows installer so I can't uninstall the rest of the
beta software
to reload the newly released tool set.

If you're a developer I highly recommend DO NOT UPDATE your machine to the
new .NET Framework 2.0 unless you COMPLETELY uninstall EVERY beta version of
ANY Micrsoft developer tool.

In the mean time, My Windows installer is broke. I installed the latest V
3.1 of windows installer and ALL remaining beta versions of CTP (Communitity
Technology Previews) and Beta versions WILL NOT UNINSTALL. So the latest
version of the Windows Installer does not work.

I even cleaned the registry and tryed some other uninstall programs. I was
left
little choice since the Windows Installer is trashed.

Does anyone know of a Microsoft tool to revamp, clean, update and validate
the windows uninstaller?

I installed 2.0 from windows update site; shows no problem, but now it has 10
file errors missing file "cannot access a necessary file, "msvcr80.dll"

this dll is on my computer in

winnt\winSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e 3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_)Ode06acd 612KB

i uninstalled 1.0 and 1.1 net framework thinking that might be the problem.
when i returned to windows update it showed i needed 1.1. so i reinstalled it.

still have the missing file "cannot access a necessary file, "msvcr80.dll"

HELP! do i really need net framework at all, i am not a developer.

You should leave .NET 1.0 and 1.1 installed.

Go to www.snapfiles.com and download the tool 'Advanced Unistaller Pro 2005'.
This is a 30 day trial version. It has a registry cleaner feature that
should find and
correct the 'missing file' problem.

I contacted MS support on this issue and we are working on it. Basically there
seems to be a relationship with .NET Framework 2.0 and Windows Installer V
3.1.

The executive summary statement is the Windows Installer is a pretty poor
component. It does not show key installation details, current installation
status (for
corruptted installations). It also has not feature to 'clean' the
installation environment of corrupted problems.

The .NET Framework 2.0 install/update had a problem and introduced some
corruption (we suspect but can not validate). We ended up going to
www.snapfiles.com and downloading several registry cleaners and uninstall
products to fix up the install environment.

Currently there is some SQL 2005 beta residue that we can not remove from
the system. This is preventing the install of SQL 2005 release version.

Will post outcome of this effort when complete.

You can download tools to clean up VS.NET 2005 betas from this site.

http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/articles/492809.aspx

This Blog is excellent for developer issues with VS.NET 2005 regarding
install, versions, releases, etc.

We used these tools and cleared up alot of the problem.
