When running Windows Update on WinXP Pro SP2 machine from URL
[http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...aspx?ln=en-us]

the following updates simply fail:

-Critical Update for IntelliType Pro and IntelliPoint on Windows XP
(KB834840)

-816093: Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)

Other updates (such as .NET and .NET Service Pack) installed fine?
Any ideas....TIA
Joe.

I remember reading that Microsoft Virtual Machine was remoxed from either SP1
or SP2 - That it was a seperate download now.
If it was removed - it can't update -
maybe the same with
IntelliType Pro and IntelliPoint.

Would you mind looking at your Windows Update log and telling us what
specific error you are getting? To open this log:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. type: notepad %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log
4. Click OK

Now, to find the error:
1. Scroll to the bottom of the log.
2. Press <CTRL> and then F for Find, and search for 0x.
3. Copy the whole line, or perhaps more lines that will let you know the
context of the error.
4. Paste this information into your reply to this newsgroup posting.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]

When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site,
you see the 0x80072EE7 error
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=22&ln=en

And from http://support.microsoft.com/?id=883821

• The 0x80072EE7 error code may occur when the client computer
tries to resolve a URL for the Windows Update Web site and cannot
find the correct IP address. This error may occur if the Hosts
file contains a static IP address.

See the KB article for how to check your hosts file.

When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site, you
receive the 0x8024402C, 0x80240030 or 0x8024502d error.
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=26&ln=en

You might need to use proxycfg.exe (see link above) to either set
or remove a proxy server configuration:

Open a command prompt (Start/Run and then "cmd.exe" without the
quotes").

Run this command to see what proxy configuration WU uses:

proxycfg

If you don't have a proxy, you will need status

Direct access (no proxy server).

If it reports anything else, to set direct access:

proxycfg -d

To get more help on proxycfg:

proxycfg -?
