Every day I am receiving the same update. I download it with no
problems and the next day I get the exact same windows update. It's for
cumulative security update for outlook express 6 service pack 1 (kb837009).
Windows Update says it's installed correctly. As it's a critical update,
there is no option in"personalize settings" to uncheck.
How do I fix this?
Thank you,
Jim

Hey Jim,
I got tired of that download reminder and did a search on kb937709 on the
forums and if you scroll down to critical update for outlook (4th down from
ours) there is a solution (I hope)
It looks like this problem has been going on and others had already
posted, so check it out.
Good Luck,
Joann

Try to deinstall the update, download directly and install it manually
this can help.

Thanks, but it is not listed in the Add/Remove Programs. I looked through all
the solutions I found, so far nothing works. I think Microsoft needs to
address this problem as there are tons of people having the same problem with
the same download.

Hi, Joann!
Unfortunately, I'm running Windows 98SE and from what I can tell on the
Technet Bulletin, this new patch is not recommended for 98SE. By the way,
still having the problem as of today...

If you or anyone else has any ideas, please let me know!

Thanks in advance!

"Coyote Supergenius" and "Joann",

Please try this, and post back to this thread whatever the outcome:

1. Open Control Panel
2. Click on Add/Remove Programs
3. Look through the updates for KB823353
4. Uninstall this update
5. Reboot if prompted
6. Close Add/Remove Programs and the Control Panel
7. Open a web browser
8. Download the KB837009 patch directly and install. Here is the link:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms04-013.mspx
9. Next, download the KB823353 patch directly and install. Here is the
link:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms04-018.mspx

Sincerely,

Hi Pat,
Thanks, but as I already stated I tried that and it is not listed in the
add remove programs. I have searched this forum and other search engines and
there are tons of people with every type of system having this same problem.
I think it is microsoft's bug and they won't admit it.
Thanks again,
Joann

Hi, Pat & Joann!

Followed your instructions as indicated...

KB837009 no longer shows up in Windows Update...finally!

Two questions...KB823353 shows up in Control Panel: Add/Remove as "Q823353",
but I can find no listing for "KB or Q 837009", and neither show up in
Windows Update Installation History (I'm guessing due to the manual download
process.)

Is there any way I can verify that "837009" is actually installed?

Also, I downloaded the Outlook Express 6 SP1 version of the update (s) as
Control Panel indicated I have Internet Explorer 6 SP1. (Running a
Windows98SE OS)

The version number of Outlook Express 6 on the "About" tab is 6.00.2800.1123

Is this OK??? Will I have probelsms if this is the wrong download patch?

Please advise...

& THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!

Jim
