KB843773 Installs Over and over and over....

Everytime I check Microsoft Update, this patch is seen as "needed" downloads
and reboots the computer. It never indicates a failure on the install. I
have removed it to see if that makes any difference--it does not. This all
started with a failed attempt to install SP2 on the PC in question(XP Home
Edition). On reboot after SP2 the system failed to come up at all--missing
at least one crucial Windows file. I had to do a partial load from the
original CDROM the licensed copy of windows came with. The restore appeared
to be successful, but now it's not possible to get any updates or attempt to
install SP2 again because I cannot get past KB843773.

Any ideas?

Are you sure that's the correct KB number?

1. Uninstall SP2 via Add/Remove Programs and reboot.

2. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your HijackThis
log to an appropriate forum.

Check for Hijackware

When all else fails, HijackThis (http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip)
is the preferred tool to use. It will help you to both identify and remove
any hijackware/spyware.

**Post your HijackThis log to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html, http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30 or
other appropriate forum for expert analysis, not here.**

3. Do not install SP2 until an expert gives your HijackThis log a clean bill
of health.
