Hello,

Another user (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,18303288) and I are
having problems with KB867801 that keeps saying it is installed
successfully after getting today's new updates for Windows 2000 SP4.
Rerunning Windows Update result it is available to install (already
downloaded in cache).

I tried downloading the EXE file manually and running it without Windows
Update, and the installer tells me I need IE6.0 SP1. Well, I already
have IE6.0 SP1 installed and for years! I noticed the KB document
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en)
was from 2004 so it's old.

What's going on and how do I fix it (or is it MS' fault?)? Thank you in
advance.

You may try http://patch-info.de/IE/Downloads/Q867801-WUFix.zip for a
q&d fix. Download the file and extract the containing "Q867801-WUFix.reg".
Afterwards double click the REG file and let it merge into the registry.
Finally shut down all opened IE windows and see if WU/AU still offers
KB/Q867801.

I've informed the MSRC by mail about the issue I can confirm for
Windows 2000 systems, depending on their update history.

Bye,
Freudi

I think I will wait for MS fix. I don't want to get an unofficial
workaround that causes more problems later on. Thanks though.

Well, I can guarantee you, that there are no problems with the q&d
fix, at least none I'm aware of. I bet you don't find an ";Q867801;"
entry when looking in IE via "?/Help -> Info -> Update versions",
right? That's what the q&d fix fixes. Nothing more or less. It "may"
last some time, until MS get's WU fixed...

Yeah, that did work. Just want an official fix. Thanks though.

Hello again

I`ve got simlar Problems to you. Windows 2000 Kulminatives Sicherheitsupdate
für Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB832894) does not install propper,
the update repeats every few moments.

Today, whenever downloaded an update, i was askt to install IE6 SP1 before
downloading update that is concerning to it, but ist is allready installed.

Perhaps the Problem is quite equal with "Stampit" a service of the German
"Post", where the Server is allways off/out of reach when i want to print a
stamp/postage.

Microsoft Update Website and Stampit Support do not work either.

If you can, please dont let me keep you to give the nice advice.

I'm having the same problem, and I used the file you mentioned, but now
Windows Update is pestering me for a different update, KB831167. I've
actually had to shut off Automatic Updates to prevent putting my fist through
the screen after that icon pops up again. I don't suppose you'd have a fix
for this, too, would you?

While I fear the next old updates will be offered by the amok running
WU detection mechanism for IE6 SP1 updates, I've just updated the
Q867801-WUFix.zip to include Q832894 and Q831167:
http://patch-info.de/IE/Downloads/Q867801-WUFix.zip

You may want to test that, but it's really clear, that "someone" at
MS needs to fix the WU detection problems on their end.

Bye,
Freudi
