KB867801 causes timeouts in OE and IMAP

Hi
After applying KB867801 I started to have problems trying to keep a
connection to an IMAP server.

The program connects fine and starts to download headers and messages, but
then suddenly it stops. I can download maybe 20 to 25 headers before
Outlook Experss complains about a timeout.

The IMAP server is on a LAN (I am the only user).
I already changed the IMAP program (was Courier, now it is Dovecot).

It does not matter what IMAP client I try to use, the result is the same
Originally I had Outlook 2000 working perfectly before applying KB867801.
I used Thunderbird and Outlook Express with the same result.

What is KB867801 doing that makes the system slow enough to provoke
timeouts?
And how do I rollback the changes? My system is a Windows 2k with all
patches.

Did you download Q867801 with your A/V running? Go to Add/Remove
Programs in the Control Panel and remove it. If all is well, go
Windows Updates and download it again with your A/V disabled.

No, I did not. Nevertheless, I removed as you said and downloaded it with
my AV disabled.

I am still having the same problem. I downloads 20 to 30 headers/messages
and then it timeouts. What else can I do?

Thanks

Hi
Same
I uninstalled 867801 and installed 871260 (AV off) and I am still getting
the same problem.

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity
(File>Identities>Add new identity). Assuming all is well, import messages
from the old Identity before deleting it (File>Identities>Manage
Identities).

Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

Disable Background Compacting and frequently perform a manual compact of all
OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

I did something better. I created a totally brand new User in Win2k.
Then I logged off my usual user and logged in as the new user.
Then I opened OE and set the account details to my IMAP account. Again,
no dice. After a few headlines are downloaded, the connection timeouts.

Regarding using the Inbox and sent, I was trying to keep all my e-mail on
the IMAP server. I am switching between linux and microsoft frequently and
I would rather keep a single mail repository. That is why I am using IMAP.
My server on my LAN fetches my email from my isp account and I can see it
from my PC (sometimes it is in Linux mode, sometimes it is in Windows mode)
