This was downloaded and reported as "installed successfully" on 16/06/2005.
Now windows automatic update has downloaded it again 11/07/2005. Why is the
original installation not recognised. Anyone with any advice greatly
appreciated. Running Win ME.

This is an update for IE6 - which immediately brings to mind the question of
whether you've reinstalled ME over itself in the recent past....

Download and run Belarc Advisor (www.belarc.com) and see what it reports
about the rest of your Hotfixes....

Thanks Noel for the info.
I am still confused though. Belarc Advisor is a mighty tool however it was
unable to determine whether the fix was successful (Unmarked HotFixes lack
the data to allow verification). At least it wasn't marked as "Fail". The
fix is listed in the "Add/Remove programmes" as installed. Would it be
advisable to use Add/Remove programmes to uninstall this fix and attempt a
reinstallation??
I have had a similar situation in the past with Windows Media Player where a
later update was installed before a previous update and I got help in the
forum which worked a charm.

You didn't answer the implicit question....

**Have you ever reinstalled ME over itself, since installing IE6**???

I have the same proiblem on ME. It now repeatedly tries to install KB883939
via automatic update and then I get file update failures upon restart.
ME seems to run ok but I'm not sure weather this update is installed or not.
Has anybody seen any answers to this ?

To check whether the update is properly installed, run Belarc Advisor -
www.belarc.com - and see what it reports. (copy/paste the Hotfix listing to
your response)

Are you running Norton software???

Have you EVER reinstalled ME over itself?

Noel, I'm not running Norton software and I never have reinstalled ME.
I don't see any problems in the Belarc listing . The listing shows q883939
but can't verify installation because of too little information. It shows all
the fixes that way for IE. The paste deleted the check marks for all the ME
fixes,
Thanks
Steve W.
