KB890859 keeps coming up

I go to Microsoft Updates and this KB890859 is there. I download and it
installs. I go back to Microsoft Updates and it there again. I go to
Add/Remove Programs and remove it and go back to Microsoft Updates and try
it again and same thing. It also always shows 0KB in size but says it ready
to download and install. It goes thru the process of downloading and
installing and says successful. Go back to Microsoft Updates and it is there
again.

I always take the Custom Update instead of the Express Update. One time I
took Express instead of the Custom to see if any different. It showed the
file size 1.3MB instead of 0KB and I thought good and this will work. But,
NO... it downloaded and installed and was back again at Microsoft Updates.

Anyone else experiencing this with just this one update? If so, what do you
do about it or what is causing it?

Thanks,
Ed.

If it installed properly (probably), there are two choices. (#1 is the easiest)

1. Ignore the autoupdate notice and go to the update site. http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
Click Custom Install
Uncheck the box, Security "Update for Windows XP (KB890859)"
Check the box, "Hide this update"
Exit by clicking "Go to install updates "

2. See line 369 (right hand side) and download the reg fix "Prevent KB890859 from being
Reinstalled" http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Thank you for the reply. How do you know if it is properly installed? It
shows in Add/Remove Programs. Should I assume it is properly installed then?

Is this a common occurrence with other folks on this particular update?

Thanks for the info and I will go to updates Custom and have it hidden.

Probably. Download the Belarc Advisor Free Personal PC Audit tool to view the status on any/all
of your updates: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Yes, a lot of people had problems with KB890859, including me.
Read them here: http://tinyurl.com/9whpy

OK, thanks again. I had belarc but an older version. I followed your link
and got the latest 7.0p. It shows I am missing this KB890859 but further
down it shows it installed 6.26 but has a red unlocked icon in front of it.
So, it is conflicting and I don't know for sure. I will also go to your
other link and read about the other people having problems with this update.

Thanks again,
Ed.
