Well,I thought it was a April fools joke! But judging from the last 100
post/replys/comments I have just got done reading. I'm think'n I'm pretty
screwed for getting any help on this.To be honost,I can't say that I am
experiancing any problems with my OS or any thing like that.My OS Validates
and is currently Valid,But however the installation of this (KB892130)
Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool is failling to install. So my
question is this? If this install keeps failling and my system is valid,Then
am I or am I not going to be able to validate the next time? Actually,When is
this validater exactly used, I mean other than on fresh install or
reinstallation or to many Hardware changes? Which I must comment on!! If I
want to make 2 or 32 Hardware changes to my system,Then that is my buisness &
perogitive and in my oppinion Bill & Microsoft can S@#$ my D^%$. Sorry but
that's just how I feel!!!!!! Other than that I really do enjoy windows xp pro.

Gary -

Try the following workaround:

The WGA diagnostic tool has been updated to correct
this problem seen by some users.
Please download and execute it from:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

After running the tool, please return to Windows Update and try it again.

I have the same problem as Gary has, i.e. Upon trying to update I am reuired
to download an update first, which is followed by a message that KB982130
installation falied.

When i follow Carey's suggestion, it appears (indeed, as Carey says) that
the link goes to a Diagnostic tool.

When running that tool, I get: Genuine validation status : Genuine.

Apart from that, the tool does, not seem to fix, patch or reapair anything,
and I still can't download/install any updates.

I can add the following to my earlier message:

When I run: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/dow.../Validate.aspx
I get the answer that validation has successfully finished.

Yet, I continue to not be able to get beyond the message that KB892130 has
failed to install, and checking for required updates stops.

After my previous message I found out that in the list of addons loaded in IE
Genuine Advantage Validation was not listed.

I did not find LegitCheckControl.dll in System32 either.
I did find the dll somewhere else in my computer and copied it to system32
and subsequently ran Regsvr32 legitcheckcontrol.dll

After rebooting I tried a Windows update check again and this time it did
not stop halfway to download an update, it did not complain about not
installing KB892130, and concluded that there was only one critical update to
be installed, i.e. .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1.

When triying to install this update, installation failed.
Checking further, I discovered that the downloadsize was 0 kB (!).
Further investigation gave me the impression that this update is not meant
for my XP Home at all.

Anyway, I seem to have come a bit further.

Darn it all to H#$%, I thought my last post was directed to this discussion
but, I wasn't paying attention and sent it to the "Windows Update" discussion
instead so I've copied and pasted here in this post. God I hate being a newb
some times LOL..

OK people I went to install a new game and it wouldn't because it said my
system didn't have directX9.0c but, however I did a verification through
dxdiag.exe and my system does have 9.0c. a popup said to check in my windows
file for a folder called DXerror.log . after locatting this file the
information included in the report said that I needed to check to make sure
my Cryptographic Services where enabled.

So I started in windows Help&Support Center typed in (Cryptographic
Services) hit enter and got several different options to choose from after
looking through all the choices I decided to select PAY ATTENTION
Microsoft Knowledge Base then out of the selections to choose from I choose
#2 and the results where rather interesting.

Now I am a 100% computer Idiot but if I read the info correctly it spoke of
many different situations I have seen reported here including my KB892130
actually it referenced it by the error code of 0x8007F0DA.

I hope this is a possible sulution for all of us.how ever PLEASE would one
of the MVP's take a look at this and let us now if I am just an idiot or if
it is a possible solution to our spitfull delima. to be honost I haven't even
tried it yet or looked in to it further because I thought it would be best to
at leased get this info to some one more knowledgable and see what the out
come brings.

Update on above,Imagine this newbie trying to work his way through his
computer's folders and files and oh my god the more important information
that you just don't dare allow a newb to even click a mouse button near.lol
then imagine him spending several hours reading the info in the knowledge
base directory which inadvertently allways has another "read more about this
here" or " other information looked at by people downloading this file " OK
NOW Imagine that very same guy pulling every hair on his head out and
bouncing his head off the key board, with a very loud aggonizing
moanrepeatting the word NO,NO.... Obviously, you must know exactly what I'm
going to say, right! Yeah you got it,FAILED TO INSTALL, check to make sure
Cryptographic Services is enabled. dude now I'm findding that this dam Crypt.
Serv. is not even in my startup services, yes I know it should be thier!! But
it's not!!! and all attemps to find it in microsoft.com has just not
helped.Thier where 2 chioces to decide on and niether of them where to
install this service in windows. Let's all just face it, Microsoft is sitting
in their chairs laughing in tears at us going ape **** trying to resolve this
issue and quit frankly it's getting old.
Can some one tell me how I can put this Cryptographic Services in to my
startup services list and where I can get the download from???? I'm thinking,
reinstall windows might help or maybe a 10lb sledge hammer pounding the 1&
1/2 ft tower in to about a 1/2 inch pile of toss it out the window. well gota
go sorry for the long windedness.
