Bummer :-(

Try d/loading the patch file from the Microsoft Download Center:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
Choose to save the file to a folder that you create on your Desktop or
elsewhere.

Now, Remove the Windows XP Hotfix - 893066 via Add/Remove Programs. Once it
has been Removed, restart your computer, and run the patch via the d/loaded
file from the Download Center. Restart your computer and see if the update
is still listed on the Windows Update site.

nice try ;-)
update ist still there ;-( (although the update itself succeeds)

I guess that the update itself ist fine, but my windows update agent
seems to be damaged. Do you know a way to reset windows update (I
already deleted the catroot2 and the softwareDistribution folder, but i
think there is something more anywhere in the system)?

This possible fix, provided courtesy of Doug Knox, might be worth a shot:

"XP_Hotfix_Prompt.vbs - Prevents Windows Update from prompting you to
install a Hotfix you know is already installed"
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_d...fix_prompt.htm
(Note: Your antivirus program might relay a warning to you about the
possible danger of opening or saving this file if it contains malicious
code. Doug Knox's files do not contain malicious code.)

i checked the vb script, it's simple. it just sets the installed flag to 1
(=true), but this is already done by the hotfix itself *damn*

reinstall windows because of a crazy hotfix, no way, i'll keep on
searching....

Sorry that I wasn't able to help you get this problem fixed :-(

If I happen across another potential fix, I'll post it for you.........and
if you do find a fix that works for you, please post back and let me know
what it was that worked for you, and then I can add that potential fix to my
repertoire <g>

I found the solution!!

It seems, that the tcpip.sys was corrupt, although I compared the size and
the date of the file with the MS KB article.
I started my Windows in safe mode, deleted the tcpip.sys in the
system32\drivers directory, deleted the tcpip.sys in the dllcache dir and
then I copied over an old version of the file in the drivers dir.
I'm not sure if necessary I also deleted the catroot2 dir and the
softwaredistribution dir.

After a reboot in normal mode I installed the update and finally the update
advisory is gone ;-)

thanks for your help

Regards,
Mark
