KB893803v2 - Help urgently needed

I went to Windows Update and it advised me to install the new version of
Windows Update Installer.

Now my system will not boot into XP - it freezes on the Welcome screen.

I can get into safe mode and have tried system restore but this hasn't
worked.

What do I do now?
