Not sure if this has been posted by anyone, but you shouldn't need to
reinstall if you can't boot after this update.

For anyone who couldn't boot after this update, have you tried "last known
good configuration" & then turned off auto install of Windows Updates?

Worked for me. We had 1 laptop that got stuck in a loop after installing
KB896688 & 2 other updates. I manually installed the other two & it's been
fine.
