KB898458 won't install

running windows XP SP2. All other updates in latest round installed, but
this one won't. Updated downloaded, but won't install. Error is not
descriptive, just says it failed. Anyone have this problem and know of a
workaround?

Your Windows folder is likely either C:\Windows or C:\WINNT. Find your Windows folder using Windows Explorer.
Locate file KB898458.log
Attach a copy of it in a reply-post here.

Look at your Windows Update log:
See if there is an "Error" for the date(s) when you had this problem.
It will have an entry (entries) with Error that would help to pin-down your pc's problem with Windows Update on-line functions.
C:\Windows\Windows Update.log (for Win98/Me)
C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log (for Win2000/XP / servers) (these systems may have Windows at folder WINNT )

You need to find the specific exception code number when you have an install failure.
