I get the little yellow shield asking me to install updates, it installs
KB899587, then tells me everything is fine - then 2 minutes later, it asks me
to install the same thing again. This has been going on for 3 days now
(about 20 times, total). I've rebooted, restarted, installed and
re-installed - and it still keeps happening.

Any ideas?

Thank you for your help, but it didn't work. Still in an endless loop of
asking me to update.

On that same website you linked me to, I did everything it said on this
page: http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/updtlp.htm and still, the problem
persists.

Any other ideas?

Hi,

Unless your computer is a domain controller, or a domain client
computer where you use smart card for authentication, you don't
need this update, and I suggest you hide the update.

More about this update here:

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-042
Vulnerabilities in Kerberos Could Allow Denial of Service,
Information Disclosure, and Spoofing (899587)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms05-042.mspx

To hide the update:

Double click on the AU icon in the notification area and select
"Custom Install", unselect the update in question, and when later on
asked, select to never show the update again.
