Thought it would help to post a Subject Line as above. I followed PA Bear's
directions reprinted below that I copied-kept for future issues.

Where I had still a Red Icon in System Tray and a notice in Update page that
I had hidden a Critical Update, I no longer have either showing. MS
presumably patched this.

My memory is mush but someone posted about the Hide Update button being
"grayed out" and I recall having to play a game or two to make it "active".
Don't let that stop you if you use these directions in the future.

PA Bear's Directions:
This appears to be a bug in the Windows Update detection logic. KB899589
should not be needed if WinXP SP3 was installed properly.

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Stop
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

2. Delete the contents of the Download folder:

Start > Run > (type in) %windir%\SoftwareDistribution > [OK]

Open the Download folder and delete its contents Close the window.

3. Go to Windows Update website > Select CUSTOM and allow the scan to
complete > Uncheck/deselect KB899589 and hide it ("Don't show me this update
again").

4. Start the Automatic Updates service:

Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK]
Double-click Automatic Updates > Click on Start
(Starting the service will take a moment)

MS apparently corrected the KB899589 problem on their end sometime on 20
Jun-08, Kern.

KB951476 was re-released for WinXP SP2 & SP3 on 19 Jun-08.
