Is KB900325 OK for Windows MCE 2004?

While checking out non-critical updates on the Microsoft website, one of the
updates that it listed after scanning my setup is "Update Rollup 2 for
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB900325)". However, the 'Help and
Support Center' page of Windows on my computer says that I have Windows XP
MCE 2004.

Further investigation using System Information ads more confusion by listing
the Operating System as Windows XP Professional, Version 5.1.2600 SP2 Build
2600.

Has Windows Update brought my OS up to MCE 2005 level? Since Windows Update
says that Rollup 2 is available as an option for me, I assume that it must be
OK. However, I thought that I would check here before possibly creating a
problem for myself.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated...

The update is highly recommended for all Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 customers.

Yeah, I understand that, Carey. My question is, am I going to be in trouble
by using Rollup 2 on my MCE 2004 computer? Or has the automatic updates
already upgraded me to MCE 2005?

BTW, the download that Microsoft wants to send me for Rollup 2 is 62.4 MBs.
I noticed that the link that you provided has a d/l size of 29 MBs. Perhaps
the extra 33 MBs is to get me up to MCE 2005.

Anybody have any ideas about that????

Jim, At least I understand your question. I have Media Center Edition 2004
and downloaded and installed KB900325 and KB912067, and now my Media Center
will not load, giving me an ehshell.exe Common Language Debugging Services
error message. (The rest of Win XP is OK) The MCE Upgrades do not show up in
Control Panel Add/Remove programs, and I am facing a Windows reinstallation
unless I can get a fix. Have you learned any new information?
Unfortunately, my insight is somewhat negative...

looksha, Thank you very much for your reply. If I weren't so busy with my
business, I probably would have installed KB900325 already, just because I
haven't heard anything negative about it. I will now hold off until I can
get better info directly from Microsoft, although I'm not sure how I'm going
to accomplish that...

As for your problem: I had not heard about KB912067 until your mention of
it below. Undoubtedly because it is so new. Perhaps your issue is just with
KB912067. I notice on their Help and Support page for 912067
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912067/en-us) that they have a 'How to
remove this update' section. Perhaps if you removed 067 it might help????

Thanks again...
