wireless card.

Please check the version of aec.sys
To view the Properties of the file first enable hidden files, folders,
and system files :
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Then navigate to WINDOWS\system32\drivers
Locate aec.sys and then right click it.
Choose Properties. Click the Version tab.
The version of the updated file is 5.1.2601.2180
If the version on your system is LESS than that then the update was
successfully uninstalled.

Have you tried Last Known Good Configuration from the Boot Menu yet ?

I've the same problem after installing the "Update for Windows XP
(kb900485)" on a Windows XP SP2 system. Only Safe Mode is working to
boot, none of the other boot possibilities.

In the event viewer I find following error with event-ID 7026 :
The following boot-start or system-start drivers failed to load :
AFD
BANText
Cinemsup
Fips
giveio
IPSec
MRxSmb
NetBIOS
NetBT
Processor
RasAcd
Rdbss
Tcpip
vsdatant
WS2IFSL

I uninstalled this update, but nothing changes

I tried to install the SP2 again, but this did'nt the job neither.

ok ij the end i did the following after lastknow config failed

i removed all traces of kb900485 (even down to registry ) although this
might have been overkill.

then i reextracted the aes file from the windows cab files

then i rebooted to last known config

this seemed to work then i manualy downloaded the patch applied it and all
is well
