After installing the update KB900485 I had problems with my shockwave and
flashplayer, plug-ins. I uninstalled both the flash player and shockwave and
tried re-installing them and can't now. I've tried everything I can think of
and still can't get them and I'm having problems all of a sudden with Active
X. I wish I had never installed this update! Any suggestions?

Are you sure 900485 was responsible? It was 912812 that changed the
treatment of ActiveX controls.

Hi Robin, No I not really sure which one it was. I just know that after
updating one that came out mid- April I now have trouble with Active X and I
can't download flash or shockwave player plug-ins.

The change introduced by 912812 is by design and permanent, caused by the
legal action against Microsoft by Eolas. Many ActiveX controls are now
having problems, and the host web sites need reimplementation to work around
the new style of operation. It looks as if Adobe/Macromedia need to
re-implement their automatic installers for the players.

You might have more luck with the standalone installers at

ok..I did that and even got the installation complete page but then I went to
play a game and this is the message I got...You need the Shockwave plugin to
play the game you've selected. Please upgrade your version of Shockwave and
try again.

Shockwave shows in the add/remove programs but places I go to say that I
don't have it. I don't know what to do and am aggravated with the situation.
Any other ideas?

BTW.......Thank you for giving me that link.

Sorry, I'm stumped. I wonder if you would have better luck in some other
forum more dedicated to Macromedia plug-in problems: maybe their community
will already have figured out some solutions?

Are you sure that updates are responsible for your symptom?
Are there any other concurrent changes you made?

E.g. if you recently installed IE7b2 another explanation
for the same symptom would be that the site's message
might be a misleading one caused by a misinterpretation
of an unexpected User-Agent string.

In that case you could try faking an IE6 User-Agent
with the IE7 browser.

No I'm using IE6 SP2 and I haven't done anything to any software, programs or
anything. When I downloaded the updates is when it started having problems
with flash and shockwave.

Ahem -- according to the law, apparently, caused by the infringement
of Microsoft against Eolas.
