KB901190, Microsoft installer 3.1

I just updated from Windows XP to XP Professional 2004 Edition (I think it is
version 2004as as it says 2004 Microsoft Corp. on the disk) and cannot
update Microsoft Installer 3.1. I receive 2 messages- Windows Advantage
Notification (K8905474) and Security Update for Windows XP (KB901190). Please
help me as I have tried downloading advice such as -FIX WINDOWS INSTALLER- as
recommended by one person.

There is no such thing as: "XP Professional 2004 Edition". You should have
Windows XP Professional SP2. If you don't have this then try downloading SP2
package for free from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

the file is very big but it ensures the installation goes smoothly.

Then download Windows Installer 3.1 from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.
