KB904706 hangs Windows Update

While running Windows Update on a new PC configured with Windows XP SP2,
the PC starts downloading 35 updates. While downloading KB904706 the browser
hangs. The only way past this is to kill the update process.



This renders Windows update inoperable. I repaired the windows update and
again windows update stops responding on KB904706.



How do I get rid of this problem.

we can try to install this update in Safe Mode.

1. Please download the update from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Please note its location.

2. Restart the computer.

3. Keep pressing the F8 key until the Windows Startup menu appears.

4. Choose Safe Mode, and press Enter.

5. Please install the update in Safe Mode.
