KB905474 failed to install Error Code: 0x80242006

Looking at the installed updates, Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications
(KB905474) was installed on 4/25.

This morning, Automatic updates installed Windows Genuine Advantage
Validation Tool (KB892130) OK, then another update it tried to install
KB950474.

However, it repeated fails despite reboots, etc. I have checked for spyware,
etc. and my PC is clean, in fact never have any troubles with virus,spyware,
or updates.

I have exactly the same problem than you... Still waiting an answer of MS. I
also checked my PC against virus and spyware and all is OK. It is may be a
temporary problem on Update program of MS ?

Did you two disable your AV's auto scan before installing?

I am another user with exact same problem.

Seems to not be an isolated incident.

Has anyone got a response on how to fix yet?

No, I did'nt because in the past my authomatic update was always working
well. We are waiting for an answer from MS.

I did check my update history and this update was downloaded on 04/25/06 so
that's why it shows up as "failed" to update !!

Same issue here, however I can say I am having the same issue on 5 pc's at
this point and am going to wait for an answer before continuing.

I too am having this problem on a CLEAN INSTALL . Odd think is it appears to
be isolated to this on update. I have sucessfully installed other "Optional"
updates as well as Windows Update supplied driver updates.

There is nothing else installed on thins system at this time.... just a
clean install, Activation, then Windows Updates...
