KB905474 installation problems

I downloaded the Microsoft Update KB905474. MS Update says my system is up to
date although it shows the program did not install successfully. However, the
program does not appear in the Control Panel display under Add or Remove
Programs, so I cannot try installing again. How can this problem be solved?

In the "Status" column, click on the red cross to obtain the error code and
diagnostic information, and post it into a follow-up in this thread.

Please also post the contents of the file
C:\WINDOWS\WgaNotify.log
so that we can narrow down the cause of the problem.

Please also download "MGADiag" from
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=56062
and copy-and-paste the information from that into a follow-up.

Is your system otherwise running normally, apart from this failed update?

The error code is Error Code: 0x800706BE. I have pasted the other two files
you requested into a TXT file, but for some reason, I cannot paste it into
this e-mail - the system freezes. Perhaps the file is too big? It seems there
is no facility to attach this file.

Please try posting your problem on the WGA forum at:

as this looks to be the same as some previous reports they have handled
there.

If it is too long, only the final few dozen lines of WgaNotify.txt are
required.
The whole of the MGADiag log would be helpful.

Any proper newsreader should be able to attach files to posts inn this
newsgroup. I'm not sure how to do it in the Microsoft web interface to the
newsgroup, which appears to be down at the moment.

If you get error 80242006 from update 905474, please download and install:

Then re-boot Windows. Does this solve your problem?

This is a link to a later version of 905474 than currently offered by
Windows Update. Windows Update History will not include a record of this
manual installation, although earlier installation attempts for 905474 will
remain in History. The effect of installing this version manually is that
Windows Update will not offer 905474 again until the version offered by
Windows Update is more recent than this one.

Yesterday one of the several Microsoft updates was KB905474. It did not
install after several tries, as it said it failed.
In my Control Panel, it shows a KB905474 already installed on 5/13/06.
Is this a problem then through Microsoft Update?

I met this KB905474-problem on 3 different independent systems and networks.
But who knows what the cause of this problem is?

The MS-technicians I called today had no idea either and asked me to wait
till tomorrow. So I wait and see!!!

If you get error 80242006 from update 905474, please download and install:

http://www.download.windowsupdate.co...d496154544.exe

This is normal - the 905474 is updated often, and every time it is revised
it needs to be downloaded and installed again. It does not change its KB
number when it is revised.
