I am new to this board & must tell you that I am not very computer savy. I
got through the mess with installing KB892130 & now am having the same
trouble installing KB905474. I do not receive an error code, it just says
failed. I don't know who to ask so if anyone can help I would appreciate it.

There have been found two possible solutions so far
to KB905474 not installing: 1. Run update from its folder:

start > search > type " wgatray.exe " (no quotes) in the search box >
highlight the found file > click Search's File menu > select
Open Containing Folder > double click the "update" folder >
double click "update.exe" in that update folder.

workaround provided by Peter, worked for Randy.

2. Correct mis-set permissions by opening regedit

Navigate to: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LegitCheckControl.LegitCheck
and/or: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LegitCheckControl.LegitCheck.1

Right click on the folder symbol beside that key name, and select
"Permissions..."

If this permissions is blank, KB905474 will not install.
These should be set to allow full control for administrators.

fix provided by Robin Walker, worked for Jan.

Actually, it ought to have "Full" control for username SYSTEM as well.

Thanks Michael - had the same problem. Tried fix 1, (since I'm terrified of
Regedit!) but only got a partial install with the error WGA Notify Setup -
Access Denied.

So gritted my teeth & used fix 2.

Success. Thanks again.

Mike.

Yours seems to be the fix that usually works - sorry I put it second.
Congratulations, Robin, on having carefully discovered it!

Maybe SYSTEM doesn't see an absence of permission as in any way
limiting its unitary powers as commander in chief of the computer?
I suppose it could be tested, but I don't see myself doing that.
