We have 2 computers at home, each with its own bought and paid for copy of XP
home. Update KB905474 failed to load on my machine last week, error
0x800706BE. Microsoft Update suggests I uninstall and reinstall. There is no
way to uninstall because there are no uninstall programs for it anywhere. A
reinstall would probably have the same problems. Your previous fixes about
tampering manually with the registry keys are not shown. Tonight, the other
machine downloaded the same update, despite it obviously not working on many
machines, so why hasn't Microsoft fixed this obvious programming error?
(After all, it is MIcrosoft's registry that it can't update). I will not
allow it to load on the other machine as it caused temporary problems on my
machine. So, what is the fix? PS: that diag file you suggest does nothing
except confirm mine is a valid copy of XP. So, what is this "fix" (although I
dislike the idea of fiddling with the registry).

Orwell,

Post in this forum : WGA Validation Problems

MS employees frequent that forum to assist those who have issues with
the latest WGA "thing".

has been set up to provide responses to inquiries such as yours about
WGA Notifications. It's a good place to vent because MS answers.
