Hello,
Since allowing KB905474 to download and install have noticed an error
message, WGAErrLog.txt, showing up in the Windows temp folder. When
I delete the file it just shows up the next time I start the computer.
Other than this error file showing up I have not noticed any other
problem with the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool. I would
like to know if other people have been getting this error file.

Contents of file:

This mystery hasn't been solved. Maybe everyone is getting it.

Uh-huh, also here. Also have folders in Windows called WGA.log and
WgaNotify.log. These are rather large and as far as I can tell, do not say
"You Passed" per se. But, to date, I've had no problems related to the WGA
verification of my Dell installed version of XP Home. Further, I do not know
when it appeared in the Temp folder as I hadn't been there in quite a
while... It's a curiosity. Maybe one of the MVP's will tell us what it's
all about..

It's possible that the update to this patch on 28-04 didn't install clean, so
it's failing when you boot.

One reason and the fix is at :
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgro...wsupdate&fltr=

If the above link isn't working, look for the message here that refers to
error 0x80070005

Well, first you'd need to find an MVP who installed it. I'm not going to
just to see what happens in the future.
BTW, there will be *another* version released soon ... oh joy
Maybe instead of a nag screen it will make the system clock run
backwards ?

Imaging the system drive frees one up for experimentation.

The problem is likely to have something to do with security.
Possible solutions: Byrd's SubInAcl, or Papademetriou's secedit,
or mmc sec & config; config template setup security.inf => analyze.
That last one seems gaudiest - I'm trying that one, gotta reboot now.

I tried Papademetriou's safe mode secedit; Byrd's SubInAcl; and
mike's Security and Configurations => setup security. Were you
recommending a posting distinct from those three? After I delete
it I'm still getting the WGAErrLog.txt file on bootup. Oh well.
MowGreen says a new version of the KB905474 nag is in the
pipeline. Time to Ghost back - ECT for the box, which now needs
to lose a few days of short term memory. Hello April 26!

Har Har, clock backwards eh......that would not be entirely surprising
by current apalling standards.

WGA Notify (spyware tool "optional" but a "critical" update obviously.
MVP who actually installed it|? I'd bet on Carey.............8-)

I have totally given up with Windows Updates it is a sick joke and has
cost me huge amounts of time and money recently. Although I run
totally legit MSFT Windows installations I have been forced by this
stupid, misguided WGA fiasco to use alternative methods of getting
updates. MSFT is just totally untrustworthy these days and IMHO
anybody who uses Auto Updates on a critical PC is a bloody lunatic.

I have a test PC with MSAS Beta 1 on it asked permission to upgrade to
the new "improved" version yesterday, Defender I assume - FFS!

Item 2 of EULA for WGA Notifications critical update:
"
2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS.
· You may install and test any number of copies of the software on your premises.
· You may not test the software in a live operating environment unless Microsoft permits you to do so under another agreement.
"
Perhaps there is an other agreement.
