Imaging the system drive frees one up for experimentation.
The problem is likely to have something to do with security. Possible solutions: Byrd's SubInAcl, or Papademetriou's secedit, or mmc sec & config; config template setup security.inf => analyze. That last one seems gaudiest - I'm trying that one, gotta reboot now. WGA Notify (spyware tool "optional" but a "critical" update obviously. MVP who actually installed it|? I'd bet on Carey.............8-) I have totally given up with Windows Updates it is a sick joke and has cost me huge amounts of time and money recently. Although I run totally legit MSFT Windows installations I have been forced by this stupid, misguided WGA fiasco to use alternative methods of getting updates. MSFT is just totally untrustworthy these days and IMHO anybody who uses Auto Updates on a critical PC is a bloody lunatic. I have a test PC with MSAS Beta 1 on it asked permission to upgrade to the new "improved" version yesterday, Defender I assume - FFS! Jonah |
