We have four compuiters and on three this update had no problems, on one
however it continually fails. All four computers are identical in all ways
(specs and software).

Has anyone found a cure for this annoyance????

Freudi;

I have been looking at the other postings for this problem and realise that
I should provide a bit more info. I am using XP Professional, with all
updates installed. The one computer that is not installing this particular
update has installed all updates since KB905915 came out, althugh I must
install any new updates one at a time.

Is it safe to post the KB905915.log file (i.e. does it contaion computer
specific info)? It is quite large.

Does this help with an answer?

Hi Again Freudi;

Thanks for all the patience. That worked. I have looked at all the other
postings and determined using your instructions that I have not moved my
program files. The error message also seems to vary for install tries from
0xf200, 0xf201, and 0xf00d

We have XP Professional with all udates installed (i.e. sp2) on all computers.

The log file is 35 pages long, so I am only posting the last few attempts,
as follows:

Hm. Do you find a cdfview.dll in the \Windows\System32 folder?
If yes, which size and date does the file have?
What infos do you find in the "Version" tab in the file's properties?

From you other posting:

> The one computer that is not installing this particular
> update has installed all updates since KB905915 came out, althugh I must
> install any new updates one at a time

What does that mean in particular? Your're downloading the updates
via Windows/Microsoft Update and the installation of "the other"
patches failed once you tried to download and install them all at
once?

BTW: It would be nice, if you could reply to a message while you
have the message you want to relpy to opened. That would
make it easier for me and others to follow the whole thread.
TIA! :-)

Bye,
Freudi

Good morning Freudi;

Thanks for all of the very quick replies, I am really impressed.

The cdfview file is 148 KB and was last revised on 10/20/2005. The version
number for the 'Channel Definition Viewer' (under properties) is
6.0.2900.2781 (xpsp_sp2_gdr.051020-1730).

When I referred to the 'particular' update that was not downloading I meant
the KB905915 file in question. I also tried downloading and installing the
file for the KB905915 update manually and got the same 'failed' message when
I tried to install it. I found the file at the Windows site.

I am installing all other updates from the windows update site, using the
auto downloader with 'notify' me turned on so that I can install
patches/updates when I have time. Once the little icon appears on my desktop
telling me files have been downloaded I use the 'custom' install button so
that I can read what each update is about.

On the computer in question, If I try to do more than one update (excluding
the KB905915 update) the first one on the list will install but any
additional items on the list will fail. Because of this I have been
selecting one update at a time and work my way down the list. I have only
had one set of updates since the problem with the KB file started, so I am
not sure if this will contune in the future.

I have also realised that while I stated that all of the computers are the
same, I remembered that Jan, who uses that computer, has installed software
for a digital camera that she purchased - however this was installed last
August, so I am not sure that this is an issue.

In terms of my replies to your help, I am not sure what I was doing wrong at
first, but I am now using the 'reply' button at the bottom of your postings,
hopefully this is now the correct procedure to allow you to follow the whole
thread.

Much thanks and have a great weekend!

Hi Freudi;

Acritical annotation to my previous message.

The info I sent you on the cfdview.dll file was incorrect. I had copied
them from more than one station to look at and compare. The info I sent you
was for one of the computers that will download. The file for Jan's computer
is older (09/20/2005)and will not show any information when properties is
slected. It shows an hourglass for about a minute and then nothing happens.
It must be the problem. Can a file from one of the good computers or the
original install disk be used to overwrite it? Or is there a source at the
Windows site where I can to get a new file to replace it?

Again much thanks.
