These updates have not installed since April 2006. The log doesn't say why
they won't install. Very frustrating.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jean

It seems likely that your Office 2003 installation is damaged. Have you at
any time recently used a so-called "Registry Cleaner"? If so, it is
possible that your registry is now damaged in respect of the Office 2003
entries.

For instance, the Windows Live Safety Center registry scan might cause these
problems.

If this case applies to you, you should back your system up to a time before
you used the registry cleaner.

To restore from the backup made by the Windows Live Safety Center, do the
following:

Use control panel "Folder Options", tab "View", to enable "Show hidden files
and folders", and un-check "Hide extensions for known file types".

Close all Internet Explorer windows.

Use Windows Explorer to navigate to folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Windows Live Safety
Center\BackUp\

and double-click the .reg file previously created by the Microsoft Safety
registry cleanup.

Please report back whether this fixes your problem.

Otherwise, you can try:

1. In any Office 2003 application, pull down Tools, and select "Detect and
Repair" (it might require the Office installation CD-ROM).

2. Uninstall Office 2003 completely, and re-install, then apply the latest
Office 2003 Service Pack and all pending Office 2003 updates.

Robin,
Thanks for your response. The "Detect and Repair" was located under the
"Help" pull-down menu. I tried to run it but it came up with an error
message - "MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD 2003 SETUP FAILED". Should I try
uninstalling and then reinstalling the program?
Thanks,
Jean

Robin,
I hate to keep bugging you AND I feel so stupid right now. I uninstalled
Office 2003 and during the reinstallation process my computer locked up
during "Writing System Registry Values" I rebooted three times and tried
again and it locked up at the same point each time. It would get a little
over half way done during the "Writing System Registry Values" part and then
stop and lock up.

I just don't know what to do now. Can you please help?

Thanks,
Jean

At this stage, you had better check out the state of your hard disk filing
system structures, and run a CHKDSK on the system drive.

What make of motherboard chipset does your PC have? Is it nVidia nForce?
If so, please try updating the nForce IDE chipset drivers, direct from the
nVidia web site.
