This is driving me nuts and the only way to fix it is to uninstall KB908531.
The scenario is I use the Siemens Phone Explorer which is a shell extension
to transfer files to my phone. When I close Windows Explorer after using the
Phone Explorer it crashes and restarts unless I uninstall the update. I've
tried contacting Siemens but even their online form doesnt work. I'm
desperately searching for a fix for this but so far I can't find anything.
Its a similar problem to the HP software problem.

Help !

Tim

Are you saying that after using Phone Explorer, when you close Windows
Explorer, Windows Explorer crashes and another Windows Explorer window
opens? Or Windows crashes, desktop disappears, taskbar disappears and
Explorer restarts?

If everything disappears and another Explorer starts, try turning on Folder
Options | View tab ...
Launch folder windows in a separate process. Reboot and try your Siemens
Phone Explorer and see what happens.

If you already have it off, try using FileMon from www.sysinternals.com,
monitor explorer.exe and see what happens when you close it.

Do you get a request for sending an error report to Microsoft?

Yes I get a report sent to microsoft but this has been happening since april
when the update was installed the only solution I can find is to uninstall
the update. Desktop crashes, taskbar disappears and explorer restarts. I will
try running explorer in a separate process see if that helps and report back.

thanks

Hi

Just tried the scenario again with the update installed and to start folder
in a separate process and only the open folder crashes but i still get an
error in eplorer.exe and still send error report to microsoft. Any more ideas
? I dont have any microsoft support tickets left how can I report this to
microsoft without having to pay ?

Do you have the CLSID(s) of the shell extensions for us? In case you
don't have them, try using i.e. http://nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
to get the relevant CLSID(s). If you have them, please post them here
and we could provide you at least a workaround.

Freudi

Hi Freudi

I think this is the information you require

C:\Program Files\Mobile Phone
Manager\DES\DESShellExt.dll {5D764C80-EEEC-11d3-BA80-00C0CA16AA37}

If not let me know here.

Regards

Tim

Have you check on their web-site if there are any updates/patches for this
program?

Okay, try copying the following between the "----", paste that into
a new Notepad file and save it as "KB908531_Siemens.reg". Afterwards
allow the content to be imported into the registry after you've double
clicked the REG file:

--------8<---------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved]
"{5D764C80-EEEC-11d3-BA80-00C0CA16AA37}"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Shell Extensions\Cached]
"{5D764C80-EEEC-11d3-BA80-00C0CA16AA37} {000214E6-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} 0x401"=dword:00000001

--------->8---------

Please make sure that there are no additional line breaks!

HTH,
Freudi

And your phone model is?
http://www.benq-siemens.com/cds/fron...130870,00.html
i.e. has an updated suite (MPM - Mobile Phone Manager) for S68 phones.
Just in case the REG file doesn't help.

Bye,
Freudi
