KB908531- could it cause workgroup shares to be inaccessible?

I was testing installation of KB908531 on a Server 2003 machine published on
4/11/2006 pursuant to MS06-015. I installed only that patch.

The symptom is that every share I attempt to contact on a workgroup outside
of my current domain responds with the message:

\\[server]\[share] is not accessible. You might not have permission to
access this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to
find out if you have access permissions.

The account is not authorized to log in from this station.

Prior to this patch, it would pop up with a Connect to [Server] dialog box
(login window), unless there was an active connection.

Other servers that have not had the patch applied, and using the same user
login, work as expected.

I have followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165/en-us as well as
numerous other fixes posted to the Discussion Group. I've uninstalled the
patch. But nothing has worked so far. Has anyone else encountered this
issue?

Revised - Vulnerability in Windows Explorer Could Allow Remote Code Execution
(908531)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS06-015.mspx
Note according to the Bulletin, MS will release an revised version of KB908531
(MS06-015) on April 25th - See FAQ section

Wait and see if the revised patch causes the same problem.

If still having problems - How to obtain assistance from MS Support

After having problems with this update KB908531, my son repaired or removed
it, but the Automatic Updates keep reinstalling it!

If you uninstall the update make sure you read the section titled "Workaround
for Windows shell vulnerability" under Vulnerability Details:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS06-015.mspx

Also you'll need to check Automatic Updates and make sure that the update isn't
automatically downloaded - Configure Automatic Updating in Windows XP - 306525
