When I install this update I can no longer open files thorough word or save
them in any folder except the default. When I click on the folder to change
it, word crashes. I also cannot attach documents in outlook, same problem
which I click on the folder to change folders the program freezes.

I unstalled and no problems.

Microsoft if you are out there. Please fix this.

Thank you.

Perhaps the following will explain & resolve your issue:

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell
after you install security update MS06-015
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

Easy Fix: Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll
down to Item No. 383 "Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software - Fix (MS06-015)"
to download a registry fix.

Note: You may need to temporarily disable your antivirus program
in order to safely run the scripted fix.

Also, review the following:

MS06-013: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912812

Internet Explorer ActiveX compatibility patch for Mshtml.dll
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917425/

I discovered this same problem on one of my user's laptops. Their is a
conflict with this update and the HP software "share to web". Do you have a
PSC 2100 All in one printer?

I had same problem with not being able to attach documents in Outlook.
"Insert file" box opened, but froze once I tried to select a folder. I
restored my system to restore point prior to 4/17 system updates this and
appears to have corected problem. I did not try saving Word files so did not
experience other problem. Thanks for your post.

Microsoft, please fix.

Hi Carey I found the problem, in your link you are posting you have a space
and a semi-colon on the end of your link. " ;"
If you remove them and just post:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Then it works.
Hope this helps

This is all very nice but this is not the way to go. Microsoft has to come out
and admit they made a blunder and apply the fix themselves.

I've reported this bug to them via telephone call and email. I don't have
the software you guys are talking about that causes the problem.

The update would not allow me to access my windows address book and
when I uninstalled the update I was able to. I've now disabled automatic
updates until microsoft comes forward and does something which they
should.

Carey,

I noticed you have posted the link to the Compatability Patch 917425
in the above to revert the 912812 active X "fix". I am installing this
as a matter of course to head off unforseen problems and the
inevitable phone callls.

Is this significant to the 908531 problem? I thought they were
unrelated as removing 908531 leaving 912812 installed fixes the
problem.............so far anyway............... but I am putting
917425 in every machine I fix also.

Can you expand a bit.

TIA

I love update Tuesdays - Business booms :-)

Jonah

Alan,
Does your system have an Nvidia graphics card? If so, see what version & date the video driver is at.
It is said that having the latest Nvidia drivers is a solution.

Can you post back with info on your video card & the driver?

NVIDIA GeForce 6800
Driver Date 11/11/2004
Driver Version 6.6.8.4

You're saying that if I update this driver the security update
might work. When you say that it is said having the latest driver
is a solution who is saying it.

I' ll give it a try and install the update and see what happens and post the
results online.

I downloaded the latest driver from dell but I had to abort the install
because it did not pass windows compatibility test.

Any other suggestions.
