This or one of the other of the updates that came down with it (4) have
disabled right click send to mail functionality. It tells me outlook
express should be reinstalled! I also can not use the search function
to find files on my computer. It tells me a component is missing. I
uninstalled kb908531 and still have the problem. Windows firewall is on
and AVG antivirus in use. I have an HP jetdirect directory and used
uninstall from there but it tells me a dll is missing. The program does
not appear in Add/Remove programs and the service in not running in
task manager. Registry entry mentioned at Msoft site added just in case
but that's no help. I downloaded HP webjetadmin, which should not have
a problem per Msoft, got it running and that's no help.
I have a HP laserjet4 which doesn't require any HP admin tools.I can't
search for VERCLSID.EXE to disable it cause my search function is gone.
Anyone know where it gets installed?
I can read the newsgroup in OE but not open the post or reply to it.
OE says an error has occured.
I looked at the update log and it did copy and move.wab files. After I
uninstalled and reinstalled the update, that log file has been replaced
with the new one so I can't see where the .wab files are and I can't
search for any. Where is my address book and why did the update have to
copy and move it?

Which is the Windows Adressbook, true? If yes, this problem is
related to KB911567 (Cumulative OE update) and *not* KB908531!

Which Windows version are you on?

If you're on Windows XP SP2, download KB911567 from the following location:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

If you're on Windows XP SP1 or Windows 2000, that would be
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Prior to installing the patch by executing the EXE files you've
downloaded for your Windows version via the above link(s), please
make sure, that you've shut down Outlook Express, the Windows
Adressbook and preferably *every* application running in the
background, especially AntiVirus software.

For your searching problem: This one may be very well related to
KB908531 - do you have an Nvidia video card on the machine(s)?
If true, give downloading a new driver version from the Nvidia
site a shot.

Bye,
Freudi

If you want to re-install MS Outlook Express, you must reinstall IE6, as it
is a sub-component of it.

Get back to us and let us know if that helps.

Except that the log file for KB908531 shows the update moved the .wab
files. I have already installed the other update at the same time as
KB908531. KB911567 also shows inetcomm.dll, wab32.dll, wabimp.dll, and
msoe.dll
as being replaced.
I still can't search for any files on my pc. The search function is
hosed. So waht was good about this update again? What worse could have
happened if the exploit and fixhas been ignored?

I think you may have other issues going on with your PC...

The Windows search function has nothing to do with these files - so it seems
there are other things that are "in play" on your computer.

Pardon? I can't find anything like that in my KB908531.log file!?
Anyway, that's very interesting. Would you mind mailing me your
KB908531.log file?

That's correct and normal.

And you've tried *what* exactly? Uninstalled KB911567 and reinstalled
the manually downloaded EXE from MS DownloadCenter while *no*
application has been running in the background?

> So waht was good about this update again?

Which one? See the associated security bulletins.

Those files were related to my problem with OE. The search function
became disabled at the same time. I uninstalled all 4 recent update and
OE is working again but the search function is still "missing a
component". I decided to throw out the bathwater so baby could breathe
again. Let the exploits begin.

Why do I have the impression that you even don't read the
followups before replying?

I'm sorry that I offered my help - will not happen again,

Because you don't read my post before replying. The log file you
requested I send you has been overwritten when I reinstalled the
update, as I mentioned in my first post.
As far as downloading the .exe version of the update, how or why is
that different than autoupdate? Following the progress of the update I
see that apps and services are stopped and restarted during the
process. I don't doubt you, I just don't understand it. At any rate,
the recent updates give me little confidence. I'm not sure I'm ready to
give them another try even thru downloading the .exe file.
I di get the search function reenabled thru this msoft advice

Nope, it won't be overwritten anyway.

Try it or leave it, especially the follwing section:
"Prior to installing the patch by executing the EXE files you've
downloaded for your Windows version via the above link(s), please
make sure, that you've shut down Outlook Express, the Windows
Adressbook and preferably *every* application running in the
background, especially AntiVirus software."
