For those who have had problems after updating their PC with KB908531,
microsoft has information regarding it correction. You can find it at:

I think this solution only apply to those who has HP share-to-web application
(hpgs2wnd.exe) and experienced problem after KB908531 update. For those like
me, despite having HP scanner but no hpgs2wnd.exe, the registry patach
doesnot fix the probelm.

Mike,

Thanks for posting this. Although I found my way to the same document via
the online kb search, knowing that this newsgroup is a viable source for
help is refreshing.

It was driving me nuts this morning - I thought it was a virus that somehow
made it's way through. I manage an almost all-HP network, so yes, it had an
extensive effect.

I have tried the registry patch suggested in the Microsoft bulletins it did
not solve the problem. I do have the HP file hpgs2wnd.exe on my machine and
it is running. Anyone have any further suggestions.

I followed the directions from Microsoft for the "Supposed Fix". I was still
unable to save a document in Office. I just unistalled the updates and now my
computer is working just fine. We are a 2 person office and do not have a
tech so I just spent 6 hours trying all the various fixes. The only one that
works is to unistall the updates.

You should check if there is a software update with the hp utility, in
my case after installing that update the problem with windows explorer
was fix.

I found and automatic fix mentioned by another forum member and it worked. Go
to: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com On the left hand side click "tweaks"
and then search for "HP's Share-to-Web software - Fix More info:
(MS06-015)". Down load (save) the fix and then run it. I rebooted to be on
the safe side, then I down loaded KB908531 and after installation and reboot
all was well.

(Note this is a Zip file and will need to be extracted. It contains a REG file
which needs to be imported into the registry)

Line #383 - this is a vbs file and instructions on how to use such files are at
the top of the page.

HP's Share-to-Web software - Fix (Line 383, Right)

To use: Download the .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double-click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done.

The other thing you can do is check with HP support about getting the latest release for the software.
